Set up

Set up in about 10 minutes.

Seven steps. Each one has a short video that shows where to tap. Have your phone and your child's phone with you, and do the steps in order.

1. 1Your phone

   Make your account

   • Open HopOff. Tap I'm a parent.
   • Tap Create an account.
   • Type your email and a password. Tap Create account.
   • We send you an email. Open it and tap the link. Then come back and sign in.

   No email? Look in your junk folder.

2. 2Your phone

   Add your child

   • Type your family name. Tap Create family.
   • Type what your family calls you (Mum, Dad, your name). Tap Save.
   • Tap Add a child. Type their first name, pick their age, tap Add child.

3. 3Your phone

   Get the code

   • Tap your child's name.
   • Tap Pair a phone or iPad.
   • A 6-letter code shows. Leave this screen open and pick up their phone.

   The code lasts 15 minutes. If it runs out, tap Get a new code.

4. 4Their phone

   Type the code on their phone

   • Get HopOff on their phone and open it.
   • Tap This is my child's device.
   • Type the code from your phone (or tap Scan the code and point the camera at it).
   • Tap Pair.

5. 5Their phone

   Let it block apps

   • Tap Allow Screen Time access.
   • The phone asks you twice. Tap Continue, then Allow with Passcode.
   • On the next screen, tap Continue.

   Keep hold of their phone. Do not hand it over yet.

6. 6Their phone

   Lock it so it cannot be switched off

   • Open the phone's Settings. Tap Screen Time.
   • Tap Lock Screen Time Settings. Make up a 4-number code your child does not know. Type it twice.
   • Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions and switch it on.
   • Tap App Installations & Purchases, then Deleting Apps, then Don't Allow.
   • Go back. Scroll down. Tap Background App Activity, then Don't Allow.
   • Go back to HopOff, tick each line, and tap I've done all of this.

   Write the 4-number code down. If your family uses Apple's Family Sharing, this step is done from your own phone instead: see the guide.

7. 7Your phone

   Choose the apps to block

   • Tap your child's name. Tap New block list.
   • Give it a name, like Social. Tap Create list.
   • Open the list. Tap Add apps, tick the apps, then tap the green button at the bottom.
   • That is it. Those apps are now hidden on their phone.
